This one sort of hit home. I've often said, with tongue only partially in cheek, that the first place I learned to feel guilt was on my mission. And the guilt-trip was ladled on in heaping, steaming spoonsful. I leave to others wiser than me to decide if guilt is a legitimate motivation tool when used in the context of the Gospel by an authority figure. But what I do believe is that as one who calls himself a Christian, I must get past the point of responding to Christ's gracious call to "follow me" only because I feel guilty if I don't.
